Well, it’s been a while since I blogged. I apologize for that, if anyone’s been checking our blog in the hopes of hearing about things. But I’ve been reading submissions in my spare time – we still have about sixty that we haven’t even gotten to yet. Last time I checked, there were about twenty or so sitting in the “maybe” folder, which means that one of us has read them and said, “hm, maybe.”
I plan to blog about what the submissions are looking like. But right now, there’s another issue I’d like to put out there.
Neither Adam, Andrew, nor I know much of anything about how to maintain a website. We’re kinda playing it by ear, using the Dreamweaver program that the UW has for free on their computers. A friend of ours, Scot, originally set up the design so that now, all we have to do is plug information into it.
Adam does that, since he’s always on campus and has access to the program.
God, I don’t even know how to talk about this, I know so little about it.
Okay, so.
Our website host (I think this is the right word) is Bluehost, and we pay them about $100 a year. I had shopped around a little bit when Avery first started, and this seemed to be a good deal.
Here’s our problem: Adam and I are moving to NYC (Adam got a great job at Manhattan College – congrats, Adam!), and we don’t want to have to worry about having to maintain our website. We want to just be able to write the updates and tell someone else to update the site. Which really only needs to happen once every couple months.
Anyone have any experience with this? Anyone interested? Anyone know anyone who might be interested?
Unfortunately, we couldn’t pay.
Our only pitch here is that our web designer would have – to a certain extent – creative control of the website and would really only have to update it once every couple or few months. We’re keen on a new design for our site, and we have some ideas, but we just don’t know how to see them through to fruition. Ideally, we’d like someone who can maintain our website without having to use Dreamweaver (of course, that’s fine if he/she prefers to use it) so as to open up design possibilities. Additionally, we’d like to talk with him/her about any other changes: for example, perhaps we shouldn’t be using Bluehost or perhaps there’s a better way to take payments (we’re currently using paypal, which I really don’t like).
There’s so much stuff I’m leaving out, and I hate even talking about things like this because like I said – I know very little.
So, if there’s anyone out there who would be interested in maintaining our website for free, could you drop us an email at our “info” address?
Please?

As long as the person taking over the website slows down those floating writers' quotes so they can be read!
Gee, I thought I'm just slow reader. Thank you for mentioned it!
