Exciting, but ...

Well, we have 20 stories sitting in the Maybe folder. That means that we’ve been able to make some decisions and eliminate about half the stories that were in the maybe folder. It was an easier task than I expected, mainly because we were able to see the entirety of submissions before returning to a story, which put things in perspective. In other words, when you read a story once – before you get a chance to put it next to other stories – you’ll read it more sympathetically.

Well, maybe not “you.” But you know what I mean.

We have to choose our stories by Friday. We’ll take the weekend to talk things over, and then we’ll email the writers next week.

Exciting!

We still have so many things to figure out, though. For example, I emailed Park Printing, and I told them that we only have about $1,200.00 to spend on printing costs. I asked him (Brian) how many pages we can print, given this.

56.

Yuck.

We were able to print Avery 2 for only $500 more and were able to have a 150 page book.

So, if anyone out there is thinking that they shouldn’t even bother donating because fifty bucks (or whatever) wouldn’t make a difference … well … know that that fifty bucks really does go a long way.

We have gotten three orders in the past week for our “bundle of Averies,” and that’s really great. So, thank you so much! Your purchase really means a lot to us. I hope you enjoy the read!

If you don’t know what I’m referring to, by the way, please check our website: we’re selling Averies 1 and 2 for a total cost of ten bucks.

Pretty cool.

So, here’s what we have to figure out: do we want to put our own money in this so that we can stretch Avery 3 out to, say, 80 pages? Doing so would enable us to publish, say, five or six stories instead of three.

I just don’t know anymore. This is not an easy decision. All three of us are hurting for money in the real world, as it is.

So, that’s what we’ll be talking about this weekend. It’s really frustrating when you have to choose (or not choose) stories, based on a stupid page count. I mean, there are already four or five stories I really really want to publish (and some other ones that I know Adam and Andrew want to publish), but I know for a fact that doing so means we’d need more than 56 pages.

A lot more.

It's going on 10 pm Monday night and still no email accept/reject.

Should I stop holding my breath and start again tomorrow morning?

Signed,
Gaspy

I really am sorry, Gaspy. I talked to Andrew, and he said that he plans to send out acceptance/rejection letters by Tuesday or Wednesday.

I hope you can understand that it's really hard to find time to get all this done in a timely fashion (after all, we did have over 150 submissions), given that Andrew and Adam are full-time students and I'm a full-time employee!

I know that you're just anxious, though ... I would be, too, if I were in your shoes!

I'm not Gaspy, but I kinda hope Andrew DOES send out the rejections by Wednesday since Friday is my birthday and I'm expecting a slew of rejections that day. Just figures, huh?

If it makes it any easier for Andrew, tell him I'm only interested in the fate of MY story.

Thrs. morning. Nothing. Saw an "acceptance" notice in Duotrope's Market Response section, so must assume does not apply to me.

Oh vell.

Hey Gaspy or whomever anonymous is, at least it isn't your birthday and you have to face the rejection. I hope those four stories are really good.
